Staybridge Suites near 27th St., Ryan Road would have 100 rooms

[email protected]A 100-room Staybridge Suites hotel has been proposed for Franklin, making it the first chain hotel planned for that growing city.
The five-story hotel is proposed for 9527 S. 27th St., near the southwest corner of S. 27th St. and W. Ryan Road. The developer would be Bricton Group Inc., according to information filed with the City of Franklin.
Staybridge is an extended-stay brand owned by Intercontinental Hotels Group, which also owns Holiday Inn, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites and other brands.
Bricton Group, a Park Ridge, Ill., hotel management firm, is a co-owner of the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Milwaukee. Bricton Group's chief executive officer, Edward Doherty, couldn't be reached for comment.
Several small motels
Franklin has several small, locally owned motels on S. 27th St. Most of those hotels were built several decades ago, when S. 27th St., also known as U.S. Highway 41, was the major north-south highway between Milwaukee and Chicago, before the construction of I-94.
The Staybridge would be the first chain hotel built in Franklin, said Ashley Booth, the city's senior planner.
The hotel would be about two miles south of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.'s corporate campus, on S. 27th St. between W. Drexel and W. Rawson avenues. Those offices opened in 2004 and are now expanding.
The Staybridge also would be near a business park that Liberty Property Trust Inc. plans to develop east of S. 27th St., about halfway between W. Ryan and W. Oakwood roads, in Oak Creek.
The Franklin hotel is the second Staybridge hotel proposed in the Milwaukee area recently.
Development Opportunity Corp. of Fort Myers, Fla., plans to build a 120-room Staybridge Suites in downtown Milwaukee.
That Staybridge would be part of a 12-story mixed-use project, including condos and retail space, at the southeast corner of N. Water St. and E. Juneau Ave.
