The Franklin Plan Commission voted unanimously last night to recommend the Common Council buy a property and single family residence at 8921 W. Drexel Ave.
The parcel, located in the Forest Hills Neighborhood at the southeast corner of Drexel Avenue and Schlueter Parkway, is located between Fire Station No. 1 and the Drexel Avenue Water Tower, just opposite the Franklin Public Library and Lions Legend Park. The Franklin Public Library, City Hall and the municipal police building are also located nearby.
Planning Manager Joel Dietl told commissioners the city's master plan identifies the area surrounding the house and the 21,780-square-foot property within the civic center planning district. The three-bedroom home, assessed at $118,000, was built in 1959.
Except for the residence, the area is zoned for public institutions but Dietl explained that could change to accommodate future development of blended nature, possibly including retail, residential and institutional.
The city is currently in negotiations to purchase the property.
