Staybridge hotel plan moves forward
By John NevilleThe Franklin Plan Commission endorsed plans for a U-shaped, 114-suite, five-story Staybridge Suites Hotel on South 27th Street near West Ryan Road.
The panel's action on Thursday at a City Hall public hearing included recommendations the Common Council OK requests for rezoning, a certified survey map and wetland exceptions.
P. Michael Cohen, senior vice president of the Bricton Group Inc., said the upscale hotel would cost at least $10 million to build and would include such amenities as a 24-seat movie theater, conference rooms, a library and a shuttle to the airport.
Department of City Development Director Douglas Wheaton backed the development. He said the hotel would provide up to 40 jobs and give the city its first extended stay hotel.
